Judy Gibson Shelton Judy A. Shelton, 63, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her loving family after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Guntersville and raised in Union Grove, Judy’s early years were shaped by the beauty of small-town life and the values of love, hard work, and family. She was a devoted employee at Progress Rail Services in Albertville for almost 33 years, where she was respected and admired by her colleagues. She was set to retire at the end of this month, a milestone she had looked forward to with joy and anticipation. Judy married the love of her life, Jeff Shelton, on August 12, 2010. From that day forward, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering companionship. Their home was a reflection of the joy they shared, full of warmth, kindness, and countless cherished memories. Traveling together was one of Judy’s greatest joys, and she and Jeff especially treasured their trips to favorite destinations like Nantucket, Gatlinburg, the Caribbean, and the Gulf Coast. Whether it was a peaceful getaway or the excitement of a football game or concert, every adventure was made all the more meaningful simply by being together. Judy adored her only child, Whitney, with all her heart. Their bond was one of deep love and friendship, made even more special by their annual mother-daughter trips, cheering on the Tigers in Baton Rouge and long days spent on the beach. Judy was a cherished daughter herself to her father, Roger Gibson, who held a special place in her heart throughout her life.

Judy was a woman who found joy in the simple, beautiful things in life. She possessed a quiet strength, a deep and steady love, and a profound appreciation for the natural world around her. She cherished lighthouses, blooming flowers, sunsets, the beach, and the mountains — especially during Christmas time in the Smokies, one of her favorite traditions. Her back patio was her sanctuary, a place where she would sit, reflect, and soak in the peace of the world around her. Over the years, her faithful dogs were her constant companions, bringing her comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. She was a big fan of Hallmark movies and never passed up a chance to watch one (no matter the season). She had a soft spot for leopard print, a fierce devotion to the LSU Tigers, and a heart that welcomed everyone. To know Judy was to know kindness, patience, and unwavering support. Her presence was gentle but strong, and her love for her family and friends never wavered.

Judy is survived by her husband, Jeff Shelton; daughter, Whitney Walker (Chuck) of Foley, AL; step-son, Bryce Shelton of Nashville, TN; step-daughter, Krista Shelton of Madison, AL; brother, Roger Lynn Gibson (Renee) of Scottsboro, AL; sisters, Terri Jordan (Daryl) of Cedar Bluff, AL and Paige Narrell (Greg) of Union Grove, AL. She is also survived by many
loving nieces and nephews, as well as numerous extended family members and friends who filled her life with joy.
