Joseph Glen Hicks, 83 of Athens, passed away on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023, at his residence. Mr. Hicks was born on February 29th, 1940, in Athens, to Rev. Marvin T. Hicks and Eula Owns Hicks.
Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife Frances Hicks; daughter Kathy Jarrett (Brent); grandsons Will Jarrett (Brooke) and Jody Hicks (Jessica); brother Donald Hicks (Annie); sister Doris Harris (William); 3 great-grandsons; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Joseph Hicks, Jr.; and 7 brothers and sisters.
A graveside service for Mr. Hicks will be Friday, September 8th, 2023, at 12:00pm at Limestone Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Tim Keenum officiating. Pallbearers will be Tim Clem, Jerry Hicks, Ronnie Harris, Lance Davis, Jeremy Jarrett, Will Davis, Mike Sims, and Darren Tunstill.
Mr. Hicks was born and raised in Limestone County, the 9th out of 10 children. He started Hicks Oil Company in 1970 and retired in 1985, and then began to farm and raised Simmental Cattle. His son and daughter continued with Hicks Oil Company until 2005. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
