John Burton “Burt” Cox, Jr. was born on October 16, 1952, and died on April 13, 2025, at the age of 72.

Burt was part of the first graduating class of Grissom High School in 1971. After graduation, Burt married his late wife, Faye, and started his Foundation and Structural Renovations company in 1992. In 2006, alongside his wife, Burt started Sunset Reiners. Both companies are well-established and reflect not only his professional skill but his dedication to create something lasting and rooted in care.

Burt was first a loving husband and father to his recently deceased wife, Faye, and to his only child, Nyoka. Burt was hardworking and loyal – when he was not spending time with his family, he was with his horses or at the barn fixing up a new project. Burt was both a one-of-a-kind father and human. He was honest, trusting, kind, and an overall servant for others. He would drop anything just to help someone in need. Even for his dogs, Burt was found doing things unimaginable just to keep them in good health. He was a man of many talents and few complaints, and to know him was to know selflessness. He contained a rare gift of genuine patience that reflected and gave a steadiness to others. Burt’s legacy is not just seen through his companies, but through his memories with other people, where he was an ever-present light in the lives of others. His hard work and dedication live on through his family and friends, who remember Burt as someone as close to perfect as possible.

Burt was preceded in death by his loving wife, Faye; his father, Johnny Cox; and his mother, Jeaninne Cox. He is survived by his daughter, Nyoka Martin and husband, Jeff; his sister, Jeanne Allen and husband, Bobby; and his grandchildren, Meryl and Major Martin.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Thursday, April 17, from 12 to 2 p.m.

We give a special thank you to Barbara Pinder, whose heartfelt care extended not just towards Burt but the entire family.

The family also gives a special thanks to Burt’s loving friends: Jim Bostick, Kathy Devier, and Lynn Burbach.
