Jo Ann Money MoormanJo Ann Moorman, born and raised in Homewood, Alabama, daughter of Joe John Money and Helen Stewart Money, was a graduate of Shades Valley High School. She earned an undergraduate degree in Biology from Vanderbilt University and went on to earn a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.

Since 1998, she courageously battled multiple myeloma, undergoing traditional and cutting-edge therapies including a stem-cell transplant and far exceeding then projected mortality estimates.

She is survived by Robert Searcy Moorman, Jr., M.D., her loving husband of more than 60 years; a brother, Charles Money (Gay) of Huntsville; three children, Robert Searcy Moorman, III, of Huntsville, Elizabeth Stewart Moorman of Homewood, Joseph Moorman (Vanessa) of Huntsville; two grandchildren, Brandon Stewart Moorman and Michael Joseph Moorman, both of Homewood. She is also survived by numerous in laws, cousins, nephews, and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her father, Joe John Money, originally from Jackson County, Alabama; her mother, Helen Stewart Money, originally from Moulton, Alabama; and her twin infant sons, Walter and Leslie.

She enjoyed horseback riding, traveling, contract bridge (life master), reading, ballet, Opera, and the arts.

She was a member of the Junior League of Huntsville, board member of the Huntsville/Madison County Mental Health Center, also serving one year as Volunteer Interim Director of the center, board member of the Huntsville Chamber Music Guild, member of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild, and President of the Huntsville Music Appreciation Group.

An inveterate scholar, after receiving her Ph.D., she taught as an adjunct professor of Political Science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for many years.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the following individuals for their care over the years: Dr. Marshall Schreeder and his staff, Dr. Jack Moody, Georgia Flynt, Glenda Whitman, Lisa Dunn, and Sarah Smith. They would also like to thank all her dear friends who have supported Jo Ann and her family throughout many years, and especially in recent months.

Arrangements are pending. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Church of Nativity or to the charity of your choice.
