Mrs. Jessie Mae Pendleton  “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith, 

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

Mrs. Jessie Jones Pendleton has completed a lengthy earthly journey and found total healing in the arms of our Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2024.

She was born in Limestone County to John Henry Jones and Leeanna Smith Jones on July 7, 1935. At an early age she was baptized and became a member of the New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America under the Pastorage of the late Reverend Jenkins. Later she became a member of the New Heaven Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America under the pastorage of the late Reverend Pearl Dancy. She placed her membership at Madkins Chapel Church in America under the pastorage of the late Reverend Endia Scruggs.

She received her educational background in the Limestone County School system and graduated from Trinity High School.

She was employed with the Huntsville City School System for 44 years and also employed with Walmart for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Joe Pendleton; parents: John Henry and Leeanna Jones; grandson, Terrance LaRonn Wellington; and son-in-law, Elder Ronnie Wellington.

Her legacy will continue to live through her four children: Shirley Fletcher (Michael) Harvest AL, Walter Jones, Owens Cross Road, AL, Doris Barley (Thomas), and Wendel Jones Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Jessie’s precious memories aunt, Estella Smith Crutcher (Walter) Athens, AL; uncle, James Smith, New Hope AL; a special daughter-in-law, ZsaZsa Jones; and other family members include a host of cousins extended family and friends.

“Very close family friends” Sonny Atkinson (Synthia), Thomas Atkinson (Linda) Lou Ann Atkinson, Mary Lou Atkinson Smith (Tom), Melinda Atkinson Mowdy (Drew).

We would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers: Ms. Barbara Reynolds, Ms. Shona Davis, and Ms. Yolanda Reynolds.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Madkins Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America (2403 Oakwood Road, Huntsville, AL 35810). Interment will be in the Valhalla Memory Gardens. Mrs. Pendleton will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.

Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025 and 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Royal Funeral Home.
