Cooper Trent, a native of Athens, peacefully entered into the blessed rest of everlasting life May 29, 2020. Jere was born on September 4, 1938 in Opp, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, Phineas Earle and Marie Pace Trent, and his wives, Lynne Gilbert Trent and Judith Carol Hine Trent. He is survived by his son, Van Gilbert Trent (Susan); three grandchildren, Jere Cooper Trent, II (Catie), Hilton Johnson Trent, and Lynne Marie Trent; and two great-grandchildren, Louise Hilton Trent and Jere Cooper Trent, III. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Trent Scofield, and brother, Robert Thompson Trent (Annette); and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Jere was a graduate of Athens High School, the University of Alabama, and Birmingham School of Law. Jere’s passion for his community and fellow man is reflected in the love he had for the practice of law. For over fifty-five years, he enjoyed helping those who needed it most and cherished the relationships and memories made with clients, judges, and fellow attorneys.
Jere, known in certain circles as “Fearless Leader,” was an avid outdoorsman and found spiritual solace hunting with friends in the Rocky Mountains. He was an enthusiast in the art of bonsai as well as a fond collector of guns and knives.
The memories made with Jere enable us to relive those experiences. As Fearless once wrote, “Memories are great! They serve us well when we are no longer able to create ‘em…It’s been real and so are the memories.”
There will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Long, Larry Elkins, Hector Garcia, Jesse Rager, Cooper Trent, Johnson Trent.
