Jeanette Brown, 81, of Huntsville, died on Saturday, May 28th. Jeanette was born in Tremonton, Utah to Dollorus (Dolly) Thompson Iverson and Lamarr William Iverson. She attended Bear River High School, and was co-editor of the school newspaper. She graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in 1976. She completed a double major in English and History, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude. Jeanette worked as a technical writer/editor for many years, including time at Thiokol, Wasatch Division, Utah, and at Intergraph, Madison, Alabama.
While at Thiokol, she met and married Wallace Brown, from Fort Worth, Texas. Not long after, they moved to St. Simon’s Island, Georgia. Moves to Huntsville and the Mississippi Gulf Coast followed. After retirement, she and Wallace returned to northern Utah. They traveled extensively in their RV, and continued to travel after they moved back to Mississippi. They found a home in Diamondhead, Mississippi, not far from her sister, Larrie Kelly, and her husband, Don. She continued to live in Diamondhead after Wallace died, but decided to return to Huntsville after hurricane Katrina significantly damaged her home. She decided once was enough, and moved to a house close to her daughter, Laurel, and her husband, David.
Jeanette was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She read books non-stop. She sewed everything from clothes to curtains to cushion covers. She enjoyed rearranging and redecorating her home. She fixed faucets and painted walls. She made crocheted and tatted lace, and knitted—all while watching her favorite shows on TV. She also loved music, especially classical. Jeanette’s best-loved activity was gardening. She was out early every day working in her yard. She planted, moved plants around, and tried new plants at every house she lived in. Her gardens were always beautiful. She confessed that she would have liked to have been a Landscape Architect. Jeanette grew to be a dog-lover, and that love included three poodles, Cassie, Nicki & Sasha; two small terriers named Petunia & Clyde; a Doberman named Franz; and two more terriers, Doglet & Carrie. She was also fond of her eight “Grand-cats”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace; her sister, Senneth Hawkes; her sister, Diana (Sally) Mabry; and her brother, Gary Iverson. She is survived by her daughter, Laurel, and son-in-law, David Hall; her sisters, Betty Misrasi and Carla Denison; her brother, Kelly Iverson; her brother-in-law, Gene Mabry; her sister and “other daughter”, Larrie Kelly, and brother-in-law, Don, and their daughter, Marla Kelly; as well as her sister-in-law, Pat Hall. She is survived by a large extended family of nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren; a family that she kept track of partially through the “Iverson grapevine”, and she cherished time spent with them.
Jeanette asked that her cremains be interred in the Bear River City Cemetery, Bear River City, Utah. At that time, she has requested a simple graveside remembrance.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
