Mr. James W. Hammond, 88, of Tuscumbia, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013. Visitation will be today at Colbert Memorial Chapel from 5-8 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Thursday, Aug. 22, at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m. with Father Don Forsythe officiating. The burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II serving in the Pacific Theater and also the Occupation of China. He moved to Tuscumbia from Madison, Ind. and retired from Ford after many years of service. He was an avid photographer. He loved all kinds of music. One of his favorite songs was “Rambling Rose.” Most importantly he enjoyed life with his family, especially his wife, Frances, of 66 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Denise; and his parents; and siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Hammond; children, Jan Hammond (Susan), Connie Jones, Jimmy Hammond (Lisa), Vickie Jimerson (Jim), Kevin Hammond (Tony), Paula Hammond (Carla), Timmy Hammond (Chris); 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Christopher, Brandon, Jamie, Kyle, Jesse, Jordan, John and Michael.
Donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in James’ honor.
Our family gives a special thanks to the nurses and doctors at Hospice of North Alabama, Dr. Hobbs and staff, Dr. Sago and staff and Dr. Lango and staff for their care for our dear husband, father and grandfather.
