James “Buddy” Smith, age 63, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away on January 5, 2025. Born on September 5, 1961, to the late Oscar and Sybil Smith, Buddy was a beloved member of the Albertville community who touched countless lives through his selflessness and dedication.
Buddy spent many years working for Albertville Park and Recreation Center and at Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheatre, where he formed lifelong friendships and left an indelible mark on his coworkers and community members. Known for his kindness and unwavering commitment, Buddy was more than an employee; he was a mentor, a friend, and a role model who always put others before himself.
As a coach, Buddy shared his love of sports with generations of young athletes. In addition to coaching, he also umpired for years, further showcasing his dedication to fostering a love of sports and fair play in his community. His guidance extended beyond the field, as he played an essential role in shaping the lives and futures of many. Those who knew him cherished his infectious spirit, his generous heart, and his deep dedication to others.
Buddy was an avid University of Alabama sports enthusiast and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Crimson Tide. He also enjoyed visiting Cracker Barrel, where he loved the warm atmosphere and sharing meals with friends and family.
Buddy is survived by his sister, Peggy Massey; brothers, Roy Michael Smith (Louise) and Kenneth Brad Smith (Teresa); and 15 beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy and Bobbie; as well as his brother, Robert Smith.
Funeral services to celebrate Buddy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. David Crim will officiate the services. Pallbearers, Cody Mayes, John Morton, Brian Holmes, J.D. Schall, Brandon Smith, and Jeff Terrell will assist in laying Buddy to rest at Brashers Chapel Cemetery.
Buddy Smith will be remembered for his extraordinary dedication to his community, his unwavering love for his family and friends, and the countless lives he impacted with his generosity and kindness. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
