HUNTSVILLE-After a complaint had been made to the Huntsville Police Department an investigation was made and a man arrested on attempted murder charges.  Here is how the Huntsville Police Department describe the ensuing events:

“Huntsville, Alabama (January 29, 2015) At approximately 0940 hours, a male complainant reported that a known offender, Charles Newson (B/M, 01/17/1966) of 2016 Ford Road, Muscle Shoals, Alabama, had fired shots from a handgun at him. The event occurred as he was walking though Big Spring Park downtown near the intersection of Monroe Street and Williams Avenue. The victim was not injured by any of the shots.

According to the statements of the victim and other witnesses, the offender fired at least two shots at the victim as he was walking in the park. The shooting followed a civil court hearing involving the victim and his ex-girlfriend at the Madison County Courthouse. The offender is the ex-girlfriend’s father. According to the victim, the offender caused a disturbance at the Courthouse and, following the hearing, the victim was allowed to leave the courtroom before the offender was allowed to leave.

The offender was seen by the victim driving by the park and Mr. Newson apparently observed the victim. Mr. Newson stopped his car, removed a handgun from the trunk and allegedly threatened to kill the victim in very specific terms. Mr. Newson then fired the handgun at the victim as he fled for his life.

Mr. Newson was stopped by responding South Precinct Uniform Patrol officers as he attempted to leave the area. South Precinct General Investigations personnel responded and interviewed the offender at the South Precinct. Mr. Newson was subsequently arrested and charged with Attempted Murder. Evidence, including two handguns, was recovered by Huntsville Police from the scene.

Mr. Newson is being held in the Metro Jail. Bond has not yet been set.”
