Hoyett T. Wolfe, age 86, of Double Springs, entered into rest on October 21, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 4, 1926, in Winston County, AL. He enlisted the US Navy in 1943 and served until 1946 in WWII. Mr. Wolfe returned to Winston County and graduated from Winston County High School in 1948 before returning to serve in the US Navy in 1951 until 1952 in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the US Army National Guard 877th Engineering Battalion in 1983. He was a member of the “Greatest Generation,” having served in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. While at Winston County High School, he was the Editor of the first WCHS yearbook and gave it the name Winsaga. He was also a champion “Aggie” debater and was named Outstanding Alumnus in 2001. After service in the Korean Conflict he went to work as an Alabama Conservation Officer and retired in 1986. He was a member of the American Legion Post 184, Fraternal Order of Police, Alabama Cattleman’s Association, and formerly a member of the Double Springs Rescue Squad as a certified diver.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 6-9 pm at Double Springs First Baptist Church, where services will be held on Thursday at 2pm. He will lie in state from 1-2pm. Brother J.D. Snoddy and Brother Bill Frank Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Double Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Vest Wolfe; son, James and his wife Qiuyan; daughters, Marilyn Massey, Theresa Snoddy and her husband J.D., Cynthia Murphy and her husband Mark, and Anita Navarra and her husband John; and sisters, Maxine White and Nellene Wade. He was Paw Paw to 10 grandchildren, Karla Wright, Daphanie Richards, Marcia Lamar, Dara Wilson, Kevin Murphy, Alice Murphy, Philip Wolfe, Wesley Wolfe, Jessica Navarra and Amanda Navarra; and 5 great-grandchildren: Taylor Wright, Kiersten Wright, Trenton Wright, Kinlee Richards and Chase Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Dewey Wolfe and Alpha Hill Wolfe; and his brothers, Harlan, Harold and Hollis Wolfe.
