Howard Edward “Fuzzy” Culver was born October 21, 1929 to Charlie and Mae Bell Mahaffey Culver. He passed away quietly on September 30,2016 surrounded by loving family members.
Mr. Culver began a life-long career as a truck driver at the early age of 14 driving for Huntsville Stockyards. His love of the road continued for more than 60 years and included trips for the U. S. Army driving a munitions truck in Korea, the John Blue Company, Air Products, and Huntsville Coca Cola/Big Springs Inc. Prior to retirement from Coca Cola he served a short stint as Warehouse Supervisor. After retirement he went to work for Leeder driving a gasoline tanker and then Wal-Mart where he completed his driving career.
His love of the road was so strong that even in his off times and after retirement he hit the highways in his motor home visiting places as far from home as Wyoming and Seattle. He also visited Canada, Mexico, Austria, Hungary, and Ireland.
When not driving he enjoyed working on anything mechanical, salt water fishing, western swing music, bird watching and NASCAR. He was an avid fan attending races at many of the tracks around the country including Talladega and Bristol. His favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a patient and excellent teacher to them and coached and assisted many in the family through car and other small engine repairs as well as the finer points of fishing.
Mr. Culver is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betty Ann LeFurgey Culver; daughter Patricia Culver, daughter Deborah Satterfield (Gene), daughter Rebecca Free (Ron) and son Alan McKelvy (Sandi); grandchildren Scott Carpenter, Sean Carpenter, David Satterfield, Sandi Gibbs (Carey), Travis Satterfield (Jennifer), Kimberly Daugherty (Chris), Erin Free, Emily Jackson (David); and great-grandchildren Lauren Carpenter, John Carpenter, Lily Jackson, Chloe Satterfield, Isabella Daugherty, Layla Satterfield, Zethan McKelvy, Anna Daugherty, Ivy Gibbs, Scarlett Gibbs, Skye Jackson, Amilia Satterfield and Tessa Gibbs. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters and first wife Willa Mae Culver.
Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Berryhill Funeral Home. Chapel service will follow at 2:00 with Rev. Tony Williams officiating. Burial will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
