Harry McCabe was born in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Grandview High School in Columbus. After high school, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps before pursuing his undergraduate degree at Miami University in Ohio. He later obtained a masters degree from Eastern Michigan University and a Ph.D. from Miami University. Harry was an educator for over 40 years, serving as a teacher, principal, football coach, and superintendent. He held positions in Annapolis, Maryland; Kalkaska, Michigan; Talawanda, Ohio; and Eaton, Ohio. Harry loved hockey and coached his son’s hockey teams through middle school and later played intramural hockey with his son on a team at Miami University. Harry traveled extensively within the United States and Europe as well as China, Africa, Mexico and Canada, but always loved returning to his home on the Tennessee River in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. In retirement, he pursued his EMT license and volunteered with the local fire department for over ten years.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents Harry J. McCabe and Hazel Marland McCabe. Survivors include his wife Nelda Hicks McCabe and son Patrick Harrison McCabe (Kayla); his sister Kathy McCabe, and brothers Larry McCabe (Tina) and Lynn McCabe (Jolene); brothers in-law Ray Hicks (Lanh) and Tony Hicks; three grandchildren, Hayden, Kaegan, and Ansleigh; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation is Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church, Sheffield, Alabama. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Danielle Thompson and Reverend Sharon Walker will be officiating.
