Harry H. McAllister III “Butch”

July 23, 1946 – September 1, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Harry H. McAllister III, lovingly known as Butch, who left this world on September 1, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born on July 23, 1946, in Russellville, Alabama, Butch lived a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and unwavering love for his family. He proudly served as a pipefitter and welder with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for 25 years before retiring in 2005. He also honorably served in the National Guard for six years. Butch loved retirement and truly embraced living his best life, enjoying every moment to the fullest.

Outside of work and retirement, Butch found great joy in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, spending countless meaningful hours doing what he loved most — fishing with his best friend Tommy Pass, his son Brett, and his wife Karla. He always had a fun fishing or hunting story to share, and those moments on the water or in the woods brought him peace and fulfillment.

Butch was also known for his quick wit and love of making people laugh. He had a gift for telling jokes — sometimes corny, always memorable — and could light up a room with his sense of humor. His laughter was infectious, and his playful spirit brought joy to everyone who knew him.

Butch was a devoted husband, loved dearly by his family, and remembered as a fun father who created lasting memories filled with laughter and love. He made his daughter Ginger promise to say these words for all to hear — “YAHOO! I’ve had the BEST life!” He always wanted everyone to know how deeply grateful he was for the love of his wife, kids, and granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karla Gail McAllister; his son, Philip Brett McAllister; his daughter, Ginger McAllister Patterson (Jason Patterson); and his one and only granddaughter, Chandler Patterson Brown (Tanner Brown); as well as his nieces and nephews — each of whom he loved deeply and was incredibly proud of.

He is preceded in death by his father, Harry H. McAllister; his mother, Eva Lou McAllister; and his beloved sister, Patti Jean Hansen.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 4th from 12 – 1 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home and a service to honor Butch’s life will follow immediately in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to alabamaveteran.org/donate, in his memory.
