Harriet Susan King Gussoni – Obituary

Florence area native, Harriet Susan King Gussoni died Sunday, July 22, 2018, in Firenze, Italy. A memorial service to celebrate her life was held on Wednesday, July 25th at 3:30 p.m. in the Church of San Bartolomeo in Barberino Val d’Elsa (Firenze). The family received family and friends following the service.

Harriet was born May 15, 1943. She was the daughter of late Harriet Susan Rogers King Hufstedler and late Madding King, sister of Sherrod King Allen of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, late brother Madding King Jr. of Killen, Alabama, Dr. Benjamin Rogers King of Hunstville, Alabama, and sister Ellen Irvine King of Florence, Alabama. She lived in Florence until she attended the Holton-Arms School, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Harriet was a graduate of the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland, and the Saint Mary’s School, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her love of Renaissance Art took her to the Villa Mercede in Florence, Italy to further her studies. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and The Colonial Dames of North America.

She is survived by her husband Aldo Luigi Roberto Gussoni of Firenze, Italy, her daughters, Lara Catherine Gussoni and partner Thomas Carr Lawrence of California, Deborah Gussoni Mohr, husband Michael Wendell Mohr, granddaughter Cora Alice Mohr and grandson Derek Michael Mohr of Cumberland, Maine, and son Roberto Giampaolo Gussoni and wife Alessandra Guerini of Bergamo, Italy.

Harriet will be fondly remembered by family and friends for her kindness, radiance, strength, and inclusiveness. She never met a stranger, she loved Italy and its history, conversation with people from all walks of life, the Arts, nature and gardening, animals, and exploring the world through travel.
