gwenA Celebration of Life for Gwendolyn Dean Thatch, 51, of Decatur will be noon Friday, August 28, 2015 at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church in Leighton with Pastor Charles Orr officiating and inhumation in Oak Grove Cemetery in Athens. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. The family will receive friends today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thatch was born in Limestone County on February 11, 1964 to the late James Yarbrough Sr. and the late Birdie Mae Hicks Yarbrough. She departed this life on August 25, 2015 in Decatur.
Gwen accepted Christ at an early age at Oak Grove C.M.E. Church. She was currently a member of Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church. Gwen was a very compassionate and loving person. She began singing at the age of two and continued to exemplify her love of God through praise and worship. She was a praying wife and mother. Her Christian devotion and faith in God was evident in her daily life. Gwen was a graduate of Athens High School and was employed as a receptionist at Mid-South Vending Company. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Glendon Yarbrough.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory a husband, Warren Thatch; children, Arsenio (Valleria) Thatch and Whitney Thatch of Decatur; one grandchild, Aaliyah Thatch; siblings, Lessie (David) Bellamy of Detroit, MI, Celestine (Willie Ed) Baker, Delores (Foster) Dillard, James “Donnie” (Florene) Yarbrough, Leonard “Mickie” Yarbrough and Margaret (Lloyd) Harper, all of Athens, and Toney (Florence) Yarbrough of Madison; brother-in-law, Marion (Revelle) Thatch of Decatur, Lowell (Undrell) Thatch of Tanner and Al Rainey of Madison; sisters-in-law, Vera Thatch Omakor and Tracee (Bobby) Epps, both of Huntsville, Bobbie Thatch of Athens and Brenda Burke of Tanner; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends.
She will truly be missed by her family and friends.
