Granville Hoyet Johnson – Obituary

Granville Hoyet Johnson, 84, of Florence, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015. Visitation will be Saturday, from 6-8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Central Heights. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Willie Hamblen and Tim Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Lutts, Tennessee and was retired from the city of Florence. He attended Oakland Church of Christ and was a volunteer reserve with Lauderdale County Sheriff’s department.

He was preceded in death by his son, Randall Hoyet Johnson, grandson, Cory Arthur Guzowski, and sister, Barbara Johnson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Ruby Rogers Johnson; daughters, the Rev. Rita Kay Chaffin and Mary E. Liles and husband, Jimmy; brothers, Alfred Johnson and Paul Johnson; sisters, Shelba Peak, Doris Howard, Mackie Johnson, Cleo Henson, and Marie Cagle; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staffs of Gentiva Hospice and Keller Landing.

Serving as pallbearers will be his brother, Alfred Johnson, nephews, Pastor Kenny Rogers and Bobby Rogers, grandsons, Phillip Herman and Aaron Herman, and friend, Wayne Geans.
