MONTGOMERY— Governor Robert Bentley has awarded a $106,875 grant to assist with the investigation and prosecution of domestic violence cases in Etowah County.
The County Commission will use the grant to support the operations of the county’s Domestic Violence Unit, a division of the Sheriff’s Office. The unit investigates domestic violence cases, aids in the prosecution of abusers and enforces protection orders.
“Domestic abuse has terrible, far-reaching effects on its victims,” Bentley said. “I commend the
efforts of this unit to seek justice for those who have been a victim of domestic violence.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is managing the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA manages a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resource management, job training and career development.
Bentley notified Joey Statum, Etowah County Commission president, that the grant had been approved. Local matching funds of $35,625 will supplement the grant.
