Glenda McRae Snow, of Mobile, passed away at her home Friday, October 13th. She had just turned 80 last month. Born and raised in Decatur, Glenda was a resident of Mobile most of her life. She was the daughter of former Alabama State Docks Director, Knox L. McRae, who also served as Morgan County Sheriff, as well as Mayor of Decatur and Vera Stewart McRae.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Louie Lamar Snow, Jr.; daughter, Ashley Snow Barnette (both Mobile residents) and son, David McRae (Kathy) Snow, of Los Angeles, California. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean McRae Stroud, and her son, Jeffrey Lamar Snow. She is also survived by her brother, Larry (Judith) McRae, of Birmingham, and her six grandchildren, Cassandra (Reginald) Puliam, Alexandra Snow, Cailey Barnette, Sibley Barnette, Benjamin Snow and Sarah Snow.
A 1955 graduate of Decatur High School, Glenda was a founding member of the sorority, The JUG Club, was a member of the Pep Club, Decatur High School Band, Tri-HI-Y Social Christian Club, Decatur High’s News Staff, Golden Memories Annual Staff, and the National Honor Society. She was also a member of Decatur’s Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star Division. She attended Central Baptist Church. She was also Miss Morgan County during “Big” Jim Folsom’s Inauguration in 1955. After high school, she attended Huntington College and Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University. In Mobile, Mrs. Snow was a devoted member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Alter Guild for many years. She served on Mobile Infirmary Medical Center’s Auxiliary for over three decades and served as the Chairperson for several events for the Auxiliary. For nearly 25 years, she volunteered at the Infirmary’s Information Desk and was a Rocketeer, rocking newborn babies in the hospital’s nursery.
A Celebration of Life/reception will be offered for friends and family members outdoors at her home on Dog River this Friday, October 20th, beginning at 5 p.m. (4:30 visitation), 2403 Venetia Rd., Mobile. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the American Stroke Association.
