Glen Marlin Hofer, of Madison, Alabama, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the age of 77. He was born on August 7, 1945, to Joe Louis Hofer and Ella Schuman Hofer in Birmingham, Alabama, he lived his early years in Birmingham before graduating from Glenn High School in 1963, and he was recognized in The Birmingham News as one out of seven high school graduates as “They’re The Tops’ among Graduates.”

 

After college, Glen accepted his first job offer with a defense contractor in Huntsville, Alabama, to work on the Apollo 11 program to help put the first person on the moon. After the space program, Glen and his family settled in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and went to work for Sperry UNIVAC as the computer revolution began. Then, with the increasing demand for nuclear energy, he went to work for Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Chattanooga, TN, then moved back to Madison, AL, and retired with TVA after 28 years.

 

He met Bobbie Ann Stewart at the “Footsteps of the church” in the fall of 1968. They married on May 23, 1969. Glen retired from the US Air Force, serving honorably for 22 years of service.

His hobbies were the ham radio holding an Amateur Extra Class license, the call sign KD4FXL, which started after him receiving a radio in 8th grade and inventing new things. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Bobbie Ann Hofer; his two daughters, Kellie Anne Hofer, and Amanda Glen Hofer; and his brother, Daniel Morris Hofer.

A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 11:00 a.m.at Maple Hill Cemetery for family and close friends, only.
