George Thomas “Tommy” Martin, age 75 of Decherd, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on February 5, 1951, in Franklin County to the late Charlie Eugene and Lydia Mae (East) Martin. Tommy was a 1969 graduate of Franklin County High School. His strong and unwavering work ethic was evident throughout his life, including three separate retirements. His first retirement came at a young age after serving twenty years in the United States Army, retiring as a Sergeant First Class. He later retired from the Texas State Penitentiary at Huntsville, where he served as a correctional officer for twenty years. In 2001, Tommy moved back to Tennessee, where he retired for a third time from M-TEK. Even after retirement, Tommy’s determination and work ethic continued as he worked on the family row crop farm. In his younger years, he was known for his famous dance moves and his long hunting and fishing trips. More recently, he enjoyed a good Mexican meal, watching westerns, and spending quality time with his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Albert Martin, Dennis Martin, Wanda Stephens, and Betty Sue Hill. Tommy is survived by his daughters, Christy Martin (Joe Cramer) and Stephanie Williams; grandchildren, Caleb (Abby) Anderson, Bud (Martha) Williams, and Nikki (Justin) Rogers; great-grandchildren, Madalyn Rogers, Alivia Anderson, CJ Rogers, Jacob Anderson and Charlee Anderson; sister, Jean (Hershal) Smith and JoAnn Jackson; longtime partner and companion, Elizabeth “Libby” Brown; four legged best friend, Bam; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 10:00am from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Rev. Aaron Hastings officiating. Interment will be held at Gum Creek Cemetery with Caleb Anderson, Bud Williams, Johnny Martin, Jason Hill, Jared Hill and Austin Burgin all serving as pallbearers.
