RUSSELLVILLE –Gary Stancil 54, a Phil Campbell elementary physical education teacher has been placed on leave indefinitely after his arrest on a grand jury indictment on drug related charges. He was indicted on four counts of attempting to commit a controlled substance crime and one count of second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance officials at the Franklin County sheriff’s Office said on Monday.
Sheriff Shannon Oliver said chemicals used in the manufacturing process of meth were found at Stancil’s home. He said after the investigation , the case was turned over to the district attorney to present to the grand jury.
Franklin County schools Superintendent Gary Williams said Stancil has been placed on indefinite administrative leave with pay as soon as he was notified about the indictment and arrest. Stancil turned himself in to the Sheriff’s Department on Friday after he was notified of the indictment. He has been been released on bail of $5,000.
Second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance is a Class B felony and is punishable by two to 20 years in prison. Attempting to commit a controlled substance crime is a Class C felony and carries a penalty of one to 10 years in prison if convicted.
