Everett Cordell Garrett, age 79 of Old Salem, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. He was born in Estill Fork, Alabama on June 11, 1942 to William Hardy and Charlsie Garrett, both departed. He was a loving and devoted baby brother to his siblings: John, Sis, Dot, Buck, Jimmy, and his twin sisters Tommie and Sweetie, all previously passed.
Cordell believed in God, family, friends, a strong work ethic, and opportunity. He was a one- of-a-kind man with a determined spirit. He enjoyed many occupations throughout his life. He always enjoyed people and especially having breakfast with friends. He could do most anything or tell you how to do, even though you could never do it “right.” If you needed help, he would help you. He was always quick-witted and ever ready to dole out advice, whether you wanted it or not.
Cordell was called to community service and served years as a County Commissioner and on the Beer Board. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a compassionate and generous helper to those in need.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dean Garrett and three great-grandchildren: Parker, Raelynne, and Reese. It was his children, Cindy (Bob) Robertson of Huntland; Greg (Cindy) Garrett of Belvidere, who gave him the people most endearing to him: his buddies—his grandchildren: Dustyn (Heather) Garrett of Old Salem, BJ (Katie) Robertson of Murfreesboro, Clay (Katie) Robertson of Belvidere, Jesse (Coleton) McGee of Belvidere, Charlsie Garrett of Belvidere. He was his grandchildren’s best friend. They knew he would always be there for them. They loved to aggravate him, and he, although he might never admit it, loved it. His grandsons spent hours fussing with him and doing whatever he wanted; all of them thoroughly enjoying it. Their Pa was their hero.
Cordell truly lived life and made a lasting impression on all he met. He was extraordinary and will be forever missed.
