Edward Ray McLemore, devoted husband, loving father, cherished PawPaw and faithful friend, peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly home on Monday, December 8, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones. In that sacred moment, he entered the presence of Jesus and was welcomed to eternal rest.
Ed was born on July 13, 1951. He attended Lauderdale County High School where he was known as “Speedy McLemore” by his friends and teammates – a nickname that reflected his quick stride. Ed worked as an insulator for many years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He had a lifelong passion for music; he loved his guitar, and his favorite hobbies included singing, songwriting, and sharing the gift of music to those around him. That dedication eventually led to being able to perform at multiple venues, including Nashville, Tennessee, as well as recording a compilation album titled, “The Best of Nashville Country”.
Ed’s presence brought comfort, lots of laughter and memories that will forever be missed and cherished.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levonia and Turner (Hoss) McLemore; his sister, Betty Jackson; his brother, Douglas McLemore; his son, Eric Ray McLemore; and his great-grandson, baby Edward.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Jean McLemore, his children, Christy (Marty) Howard, Eric (Kayla) McLemore, Chasity (Quinton) Ingram, Thomas (Linda) Holt, Bobby Holt, and Sandra Holt; his brother, John Thomas (Sherry) McLemore; granddaughter, Chasity Holt, whom he shared a special father-daughter like bond; seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a special great-grandson on the way, Nathan “Nate” McLemore, honorary great-grandson, Hunter, and a host of extended family members and friends.
Service will be at Spry Funeral Home, Athens, Alabama, on Thursday, December 11th at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pete Hess with burial following at Dement Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to services from 12 noon to service time.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to his hospice nurse, Brittany, who cared for him until the very end.
