Edward Belue Haraway – Obituary

edwardEdward Belue Haraway, aged 89 and 11 months, passed away after a long illness at his home March 10, 2013.  He attended Old Mt. Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, graduated from Lauderdale County High School in 1942, and technical college in Nashville.  He worked as an Instrument Tech. in Mobile, AL before being called to serve in WWII.  He was an aircraft mechanic in the Army Air Force at various locations in the Southern Pacific area.  After the war, he came back to the family farm near Rogersville, where he worked and lived out the rest of his life.  He was an avid sports fan, and was able to watch and enjoy the L.C.H.S. girls win another state title.

Belue was the youngest and last surviving child of Moses H. and Justin McCain Haraway.  He was the brother of M. Newton and Braxton C. Haraway, Edith Prince, Ernestine Hannah, Eldred Whitehead and Geraldine “Billye” White.  He was also preceded in death by nieces, Linda H. Springer and Cassandra Hannah.  He leaves behind nieces and nephews, Rebecca H. Butler and Harris O. Haraway, Brunswick, GA, Carolyn H. Stephens, Huntsville, AL, Elizabeth W. Kimsey, Pinehurst, NC, Roberta H. Mann, Tallahassee, FL, James L. Whitehead, Jr., Montgomery, AL, Arlene H. Elrod, Brownsboro, AL, Turner A. Hannah and Ronnie B. Haraway, Rogersville, AL.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Elkins East Chapel with services immediately thereafter in the Chapel with the Rev. Terry Herston officiating.  Burial will follow in Ingram-Thornton Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Turner A. Hannah, James Whitehead, Neal Stephens, David Elrod, Sam Camp, and Ronnie Haraway.

The family expressed their gratitude to Hospice of North Alabama for their extended hands in the care of Belue, and our special thanks to KoKo Gabriel and Martha Springer.
