Dorothy Lee Yates, age 97, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. She was born on August 11, 1928, and lived a life defined by compassion, faith, and devotion to her family and community.
For more than 30 years, Dorothy faithfully served the community through her work at North Mississippi Medical Center. Caring for others was one of her greatest joys in life. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and willingness to help those in need left a lasting impression on countless patients, coworkers, and friends. A faithful Christian, Dorothy was a devoted member of Mayfield Church of Christ in Saltillo. In her younger years, she found great joy in volunteering through her church. Faith guided her life and was evident in the love and compassion she shared with everyone she met. Dorothy will be remembered for her warm heart, unwavering faith, and the love she poured into her family. She found happiness in caring for others, celebrating family gatherings, and watching the generations of her family grow. Though she will be greatly missed, her family takes comfort in the many precious memories she leaves behind.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Debra Oaks; her son, Tim Yates (Karla Stone); her sister, Helen Brown; her brothers, Tommy Stanford and Bobby Stanford (Elaine); and her cherished grandchildren, LaShona Taylor (Jason), Kyle Yates (Kaytlon Wages), Keith Yates, Annelida Lackey (Bo), and Bonita Yates. Her legacy continues through her seven great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Yates; her son, Ronald Yates; and her siblings, Brody Stanford, Gerald Stanford, and Sue Carpenter.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service time on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Pegues in Saltillo.
Services honoring Mrs. Yates will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Pegues in Saltillo with Bro. Adam Miller and Bro. Lonnie Neaves officiating. Burial will follow at Mayfield Church of Christ Cemetery.
