Preston Linden Reeder, age 77, of Florence, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 29, at Williams Funeral Home from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Preston Reeder and Laura Perritt Reeder; paternal grandparents, Homer Linden and Loula Paulk Reeder; maternal grandparents, Otho and Laura Daughtry Perritt; and uncles, Otho and Fuzzy Perritt.
Mr. Reeder is survived by his sons, Preston Linden Reeder Jr. (Virginia) of Mobile and Perron Achorn Reeder (Lindy) of Florence; and his sister, Laura Reeder Carroll of Huntsville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mason Perron Reeder, Evelyn Louise Reeder, Mary Martin Reeder, Preston Linden Reeder III, Madeline Drew Reeder, and Dorothy Margaret Reeder; nephew, Timothy Linden Carroll of Columbia, South Carolina; aunt, Noel Perritt of Florence; and four additional nieces and nephews.
A lifelong resident of Florence, Mr. Reeder was a current member of Christ Methodist Church. He attended elementary school at Kilby Training School, a teacher-training school associated with the former Florence State Teachers College, now the University of North Alabama. He later attended Appleby Junior High and Coffee High School before pursuing his higher education at the University of Alabama. While at the university, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and earned an undergraduate degree in Finance.
Throughout his career, Mr. Reeder held several leadership positions, including Assistant Bank Manager at both First National Bank of Birmingham and First National Bank of Florence. He later served as Sales Manager for the Ashley Division of Martin Industries and as Vice President of Sales at T.J.’s Manufacturing. Mr. Reeder eventually pursued additional business ventures and obtained his real estate license.
Mr. Reeder had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. As a young man, he frequently spent time at Shoal Creek, where he became known for his impressive ability to barefoot water ski. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and cherished time spent at the Reeder family property on Waterloo Road, which he lovingly named “The Tree Farm.”
Honorary pallbearers include the members of Mr. Reeder’s Friday Lunch Group, his Phi Gamma Delta Brothers, and his Wednesday Prayer Group.
