Dorothy "Dot" Mae Grills Weatherford It is with great sadness that the family of Dorothy “Dot” Weatherford announces her peaceful passing on July 4, 2026, at the age of 95.

Her children lovingly remember Dot: Linda Jones, Michael Weatherford, and Cara Barnhart [Thomas]; her sister, Joyce Curtis; her brother, Nathern “Sonny” Grills [Sandy]; her grandchildren, Carrie Ann Bilyou, Jessica Bates, Vanessa Jones, and Anna Lea Barnhart; as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Steadman Grills and Carl William Grills; her beloved husband of 69 years, George Holt Weatherford; and her son, Randy Weatherford.

Dot was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she and her husband, George, built a loving home and raised their family. In 1970, they relocated to Decatur, Alabama, and later settled in Hartselle, where they made their home together for the rest of their lives.

Dot was a devoted wife, mother, and Nana whose greatest joy was caring for her family.  After raising her children, she worked for 25 years at the Laureen B. Wallace Center, where she compassionately served its residents and formed lasting friendships.

She and George were faithful members of the Senior Adult Ministry at West Hartselle Baptist Church, where they enjoyed serving, travelling, fellowship, and treasured friendships.

Dot appreciated life’s simple pleasures.  She loved sewing, camping, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She spoke her mind honestly and had a mischievous sense of humor.  She often joked that she planned to live to be 100 “just to aggravate the kids” – a comment that made her family smile and perfectly reflected her lively spirit.

Her warmth, resilience, laughter, and steadfast love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A private family memorial service will be held later.

The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate staff of Southern Care New Beacon and Summerford Health & Rehab for the care, kindness, and dignity they provided during Dot’s final days.
