Dolores Evelyn Katz Miller, 88, of Huntsville, died Monday. A native of Columbia, S.C., she was born January 19, 1928, the daughter of Solomon Katz and Ethel Hirshman Katz. She was predeceased by her parents and her cherished brother, Marshall N. Katz.
She is survived by her adoring family, Israel Bernard (Buddy) Miller, her beloved husband of 69 years; daughter Sara Miller Denbo (Joel) of Decatur, AL; son Solomon I. Miller (Elizabeth) of Huntsville; Joy Miller Greenberg (Kenneth) of CA; grandchildren Ariel D. Zion (Jason) of Atlanta; Rachel D. Labovitz, MD (Marc) of Birmingham, AL; Jessica D. Smith (Eric) of Atlanta; Isabelle R. Miller (Pedro Aguiar Cesar) of São Paulo, Brazil; Louis D. Miller, Israel; Erika Greenberg, CA; Shane Greenberg, CA; great-grandchildren Lincoln and Ava Zion; Miller and Chandler Labovitz; Raphaella Cesar; sister-in-law Arlene Katz, Hilton Head, SC; a nephew and several nieces.
She graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia in 1944 and from the University of South Carolina in 1947 with a degree in music. She was an accomplished musician, and while at USC won several statewide piano competitions.
A Huntsville resident since 1948, she was a longtime member of Temple B’nai Sholom.
A loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will be missed by her family, who will forever cherish her memory.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7 at Maple Hill Cemetery, with Rabbi Steven Jacobs officiating.
