David Wayne Pumphrey, 55, having kept the faith, finished his earthly journey at 3:19 AM Saturday, July 1, 2017 after an extended flight from California on June 30, 2017 with his devoted fiancé and caregiver, Diana, to get home to his native Mississippi to transform to the life eternal. David lived a happy and energetic life that included working hard and playing hard. He was born on September 14, 1961 in the old Maben Hospital in Webster County to the late legendary preacher, Rev. Cecil Pumphrey and Joan Neal Pumphrey. David lived in Mississippi until age 12 when his ministry father took a pastorate in California. Except for 7 more years, David made California his life home. He was a self- employed Flooring and Building Contractor known for his professional skills. A master craftsman, David enjoyed the California life especially the Pacific Ocean. He was a skilled surfer and water enthusiast. His other interests were diverse: hog hunting, being bi-lingual speaking Spanish fluently, enjoying all genres’ of music, reading, finding meaning in the Word of God, daily diaries of his life, his children and their activities and championing for the underdog in all circumstances. He was a great son, brother, father and companion and will be dearly missed by many.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 PM Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Arbor Grove Baptist Church in Chickasaw County with Bro. Andy Black officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday only. Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel, is honored to be serving their friends. Those closest left to cherish his memory include his Mother; Joan Neal Pumphrey of Tupelo. his three children; Chelsea Nicole, Brian David and Aaron Daniel Pumphrey and their mother, Dyana Wick Bojarski all of Costa Mesa, California. His constant companion and fiancé, Diana Dean-Emig of California and Tupelo. his siblings, Robert Pumphrey (Patty) of Belden, Cindy Sarvak (Steve) of Franklin, Tenn andMark Pumphrey (Heather) of Tupelo. a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
