christopherChristopher Scott Bevis, 46, passed away in his sleep at his home in Covington, Louisiana, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015. He was born in Huntsville and lived in the Huntsville area until he moved to Louisiana 10 years ago to help his mother battle breast cancer. He graduated from Madison County High School in Gurley in 1988 and attended Calhoun Community College, studying blueprint and machine shop operations.
Chris was a gentleman, a beloved son, an exceptional craftsman and an expert in specialty millwork finishing. In 2008 his talents took him to the Schonfeld Mansion in New York to install custom work, which was later featured in “Architectural Digest.” He loved Alabama football and was well known to yell “Roll Tide” to LSU or Auburn fans. His other loves were golf and his cat “Snugglepuss” (who has been adopted by and is being well cared for by a friend).
Christopher is survived by his mother, Xyldia Luckey Thomas and stepfather, Steve Thomas, of Abita Springs, Louisiana, and two first cousins. He is also survived by his father, Jimmy R. Bevis and lifelong friend, Elizabeth Boles and her daughter, Meredith, of Melbourne, Florida; an uncle, Doyle Bevis; and six cousins.
Chris had many close friends in Huntsville, including Rick Spray, Jim Breece, Chris Ragsdale and the late Dan Michaels and Sonny Potter.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Grace and Bill Luckey; his maternal aunt, Nancy Brown Anderson; his paternal grandparents, Euphie Hester and James Orlan Bevis; and an uncle, Tommy Bevis.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Grace Presbyterian Church, 5555 Wall Triana Hwy., in Madison. This is to be a time of sharing, so bring photos or special stories to share. Following the Celebration of Life his cremains will be interred at Bishop Chapel Cemetery near Loretto, Tennessee. An informal memorial get-together for visiting with family is planned for Jan. 17, 2016, in Abita Springs, Louisiana, from 1-3 p.m. at the Abita Springs Town Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Christopher’s name to the Humane Society or to one’s local no-kill animal shelter, or to plant an evergreen tree in his memory.
