Charles Wayne Boyles – Obituary

Dr. Charles Wayne Boyles, 72, of Russellville, Ala., was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2013. He was surrounded by his family.

The funeral service will be Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, Russellville, with burial in Franklin Memory Gardens. Officiating will be Larry Brewer, Billy Quinn, David Gregg and James McCullar. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 29, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Brother Boyles is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha Hamilton Boyles; his daughter, Penny Boyles Leeton (Ike), of Oxford, Miss.; his daughter- in- law, Cyndie Boyles, of Russellville; and four grandchildren, Jessica Montogmery (Matthew), Jordan Boyles (Brooke), Jonas Boyles, of Russellville, and Garrett Leeton, of Oxford, Miss. He also is survived by five siblings, Larry Boyles (Dolly), of Cleveland, Ohio, Sharron Boyles Graham (David), David Boyles (Sheron), Farrell Boyles (Jackie), of Russellville, Ala., Pam Boyles Baker, of Weaver, Ala.; his brother-in-law, Houston Poss, of Muscle Shoals; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Parrish, of Russellville; and many nieces; nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and a great-granddaughter on the way. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Dwayne Boyles; three siblings, Fostine Boyles Poss, Sandra Boyles Oliver and Ted Grady Boyles; his parents, T. R and Rena Boyles; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mark and Ruth Hamilton, of Russellville.

On May 1, 1974, on the bank of the Tennessee River in Courtland, Ala., he was saved and was later baptized by the Avalon Missionary Baptist Church of Muscle Shoals. He accepted his call to preach on November 30, 1975, and was called to pastor the Frankfort Baptist Church in Russellville in July 1976. In August 1978, Brother Boyles enrolled at the Oxford Baptist Institute in Oxford, Miss. and graduated with his Doctorate in Theology in May 1984. That same year, he accepted the pastorate of South Lamar Baptist Church and the office of President/Instructor of the Oxford Baptist Institute. In April 1992, he was called to pastor the Oakwood Baptist Church where he served as pastor for 19 years. He was the pastor at Avalon Missionary Baptist Church until his death. Brother Boyles started an outreach ministry through television and radio called “The Master of the Wind” which still airs in multiple states in both mediums. Brother Boyles served as a moderator for the Alabama and Mississippi State Associations, the Yellow Creek Association, the Northwest Mississippi Association and the Tri-State Association. He has served as the Director for the Yellow Creek Youth Camp numerous times. Throughout his tenure as a pastor, he led many souls to Christ.

Brother Boyles loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and granddaughter. He always made time for anyone who needed to share their burdens or sorrows or just needed an encouraging word from him. It was often said he never met a stranger. His warm smile and easy laugh will be missed by all who knew him.
