Charles Stacy “Pop” Word, 83, of Ohatchee, Alabama, passed away September 20, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew and loved him.
Stacy was born on April 25, 1942, in Anniston, Alabama, to Roy and Jessie (Langdon) Word He attended Walter Wellborn High School and Ayers State Technical School. He enlisted in the Navy and went on to have a long career at the Anniston Army Depot where he retired after more than 45 years of service.
Stacy is survived by his wife Dianne, sons Charlie Word, Jeff Word, and daughter Tracy (Michael) Bishop. Grandchildren Westley Word, Maggie Word, and Jesse (Lexi) Word, Sarah (Cameryn) Fleming, Jeffery Norment, Jackson Norment, Mason Norment, and Morgan Norment, Great-grandchildren, Harper Word, and Winry Fleming. Siblings, Mae Press, Betsy Starr, Jane Word, Susie Yarborough, Judy (Alex) Marler, Mike (Chris) Word. Along with many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Jessie Word. Siblings Roy Word Jr., Corrine Foster, and Jo Ann Taylor and her husband Bill Taylor. Brothers-in-law Bubby Starr and Johney Yarborough, his daughter Rachel Norment, great-grandaughter Madison Lynn Word and mother of his sons Lillie Ann Word.
Stacy will be remembered for his love of outdoors, camping, fishing. He loved the mountains and riding in the jeep with his boys and friends. He enjoyed his home set off from Henry Neely Lake surrounded by his hummingbirds, nature, and his furbabies Hazel and Henry. Friends and family will especially remember his love of family, the outdoors, and Alabama Football.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 27, 2025 at 1 PM with a reception to follow. Feel free to dress casually and wear your Crimson Tide colors. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made in Stacy’s honor to the American Cancer Society. The family would also like to express their deep gratitude to Enhabit Hospice.
Stacy’s life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed.
