Mr. Charles "Chuck" Smothers  Charles “Chuck” Smothers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on November 5, 2023, at the age of 81.
Chuck was born on November 18, 1941, to the late Ezra and Lois Smothers. He grew up alongside his brother, Jimmy Smothers, and sister, Bernice Donald. Chuck was proud of his roots and the family values instilled in him from a young age.
Chuck enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served with honor and distinction. His time in the military left a lasting impact on him, and he carried his sense of duty and discipline throughout his life. Chuck was also a graduate of the University of Alabama, where he acquired the knowledge and skills that would serve him well in his future endeavors. Chuck’s faith played a central role in his life, he was a devoted member of the Crestview Church of Christ.
Family was of paramount importance to Chuck. He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Smothers; son, Randy (Melissa) Ferguson. Chuck’s role as a grandfather brought him immense joy. He leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren: Anna Beth Thomason (Randy), Drew Ferguson, Michael Smothers, Tyler Smothers, and Patrick Smothers. His great-grandchildren, William, Charles, and Wesley Thomason; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his late parents and siblings, he is preceded in death by his son, John Smothers.
His dedication to others extended to his support for Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, and, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to this vital organization in his memory.
As a final honor to Chuck, those who knew and loved him will serve as pallbearers, including Drew Ferguson, Randy Thomason, James Kean, Barrett White, Jim Smothers, and Jason Cagle.
A service to celebrate Chuck’s life will be announced at a later date.
Charles “Chuck” Smothers leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us to live our lives with the same dedication and love that he exemplified.
