Carolyn Lowery Sockwell, 85, of Huntsville, died peacefully in her sleep on July 4, 2020 after suffering several years with dementia. Carolyn was born in Leighton, AL March 23, 1935. After graduating from high school, Carolyn and her husband, Ronald, moved to Tuscaloosa, AL where Ronald received his college degree from the University of Alabama. From Tuscaloosa, they moved to Chattanooga, TN and eventually to Huntsville, AL where they raised their family.

In addition to raising her family, Carolyn was a kindergarten teacher for several years before working in the banking industry until she retired in the 1990’s. Carolyn was known for her faithful devotion to her husband and family, her commitment to Twickenham Church of Christ, her hard work, her beauty, and her gracious Southern charm. She was also a great artist and phenomenal cook. Many of her paintings and drawings are scattered throughout her children’s and grandchildren’s homes and her recipes will continue to be used in future generations.

Though dementia impacted her life in her later years, she still maintained her great personality and sense of humor. Her family and friends will deeply miss her and will carry fond memories of her with them through the remainder of their lives. We were blessed by her life and are comforted that she is now with our Lord.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father and mother, Lonnie and Alma Lowery; sisters, Camilla Wood and Reba Lowery; brother, Roy Lowery; and her husband of 60 years, Ronald Sockwell.

Carolyn has three living children, Pamela Sockwell Mellon (Dave), Rhonda Sockwell Dickens and Darryl Wayne Sockwell (Julie); 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with the fifth great-grandchild arriving in December.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11th, at Huntsville Memory Gardens. (www.laughlinservice.com)

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Alabama Hospice. This company is a special organization and treated our mom with grace and dignity in the final months of her life.
