TUSCUMBIA – Police Chief Tony Logan, who usually carries a smile, was not smiling earlier today as he described the death of a 2-month-old infant… allegedly at the hands of the child’s father. “This past Saturday night, Chief Logan said at a media conference at City Hall, “we were notified of an unresponsive infant at 803 North Main Street. The unresponsive child was taken to Helen Keller Hospital where efforts were taken to revive him. They were unsuccessful.” Logan continued, “Because of that, we’ve been working with the District Attorney’s office pretty much around the clock since Saturday night. As a result, a capital murder warrant was issued today for Michael Wade Logan. He’s 28 years old. He’s the biological father of the child.”
Logan explained that the reason the charge of capital murder has been leveled against the man, is because the Alabama statute makes such a provision when the victim is younger than 14 years of age. He also said that the investigation is on-going and more charges may be forthcoming. “We are working with the District Attorney’s Office as there may be additional charges could be leveled against someone else in the case,” Logan added.
There will be no bond for Michael Wade Logan, at least for the present time.
Chief Logan explained further, “All we have right now is preliminary information from the forensic lab (in Huntsville), but basically, the child had suffered from multiple traumas to the head and body. Of course, we will know a little bit more when we get the final autopsy report back. But the injuries were obviously not accidental.”
Chief Logan explained the mood of his investigators and himself, “these are the hardest cases you’ll ever work. You know, anytime you deal with victims that can’t help themselves… seniors or infants… They’re very difficult cases (on the investigators)”. He paused, “I can tell you first-hand from having been at the hospital Saturday night, the image of that small infant laying there… on the bed… deceased… has not left my head.”
Chief Logan made sure that the media people present at City Hall this afternoon recognized the hard job his investigators accomplished so professionally. “They’ve all done a tremendous job, and Lead Investigator Wes Holland should be commended. The case will be taken to the Grand Jury, and because of their work, there may be more charges brought in this case.”
Chief Logan said that the baby’s mother was not at home at the time of the death. She was actually at work at the time that this happened. He said that another person, however was there with the suspect. He continued, “We do feel pretty comfortable with what we’ve been told by the forensic lab that the child may have had some older injuries.” He expressed, “And again, you’ve got to remember that this infant was only two months old. He was born premature. He spent three weeks in Huntsville Hospital right after his birth. So, he has not been in the care of his parents for very long. But, according what they told us from forensics, that there are probably going to be some preexisting injuries before Saturday night.”

Kill him and kill him now! I’m sick of theses low life loses getting to spend their time in jail. If you can’t handle it, then give them to someone who can. I would’ve taken him. Many would’ve taken him. But you just took his life.
