Huntsville, AL – Today Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) recognized Alabama’s Fifth District 2014 Congressional Art Competition winner in a special awards ceremony at the Huntsville Museum of Art’s Great Hall. The winner, 17-year-old Victoria Lewis, won for her charcoal-medium entry entitled, “Carl.” Miss Lewis is a senior at Bob Jones High School. Her art teacher is Ms. Jennifer Norton. Ms. Lewis’s artwork will be hung in the U.S. Capitol building, along with winners from Congressional districts across the country. The winner of the annual Congressional Art Competition attends a national reception for winners in Washington, D.C. in June.

Congressman Brooks said, “Each year my office partners with the community to facilitate the Congressional Art Competition, which recognizes talented artists from high schools throughout the Fifth District. There were 240 entries for this year’s competition, and a panel of three judges selected the winner, Miss Victoria Lewis of Bob Jones High School. Ms. Lewis’s artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside winning submissions from other Congressional districts. Congratulations to Victoria and to all of the honorable mentions. I was extremely impressed by the work showcased today and hope this competition encourages these North Alabama students to continue pursuing their artistic talents.”
