Mr. Mitchell also has an extensive personal collection of Civil War pieces and antique weapons. Bluewater Publications became acquainted with Mr. Mitchell while preparing Thomas E. Kilgo’s Gunsmiths and Allied Tradesmen of Alabama for publication.  Gunsmiths and Allied Tradesmen of Alabama (ISBN-13: 978-1934610770) represents an exhaustive and comprehensive effort to identify and list all known gunsmiths who lived and worked in Alabama from 1790 to the early 1900’s and produced some of the most important items of Alabama history and culture. Few tangible examples have survived, yet these few are a significant window into the past of our ancestors and the lives of these pioneers. Mr. Mitchell owns many of the few pieces that have survived and they are pictured in the book.
