Billy Wayne Hogan, age 89, of Pleasant View, Tennessee, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026 at his home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 15th, at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View with Pastor Blake Stiles officiating. Burial will follow in the Dowlen Cemetery on Woodson Farm with Mr. Hogan’s grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Gordon Beasley, Freddie Burcham, Nick Nichols, Larry Lewelling, Tracy Henderson, David Brooks, Steve Batson, Ena & Fred Selby, and past Goodlettsville High School teachers, students, and athletic players.
Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home 3:00-7:00PM Friday, August 14th, and again on Saturday beginning at 10:00AM until the hour of service at 12:00 noon.
Mr. Billy was born on November 27, 1936 in Ardmore, Alabama, the second of seven children, to the late Mape & Alene Hogan. He grew up on a farm on State Lane Road in Ardmore. These farming skills proved beneficial years later as an adult on Woodson Farm in Pleasant View, Tennessee. He graduated from Ardmore High School, and then attended Martin Methodist College for two years, and played basketball while there. While at Martin, he met the love of life, Betty Woodson, and they were married for 59 years until her death in 2020.
He continued his college at Middle Tennessee State University where he also played basketball for one year. He completed his college, earning his Bachelor of Science degree at Belmont University. Later, he earned his Master’s degree +30 at Tennessee State University.
Billy taught high school at his alma mater, Ardmore High School, for three years. He then taught at Goodlettsville High School and Middle School for the next 30 years, where he coached many teams in basketball, soccer, and track.
Billy & Betty completed construction of their home on Triangle Road in 1966, and raised their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren there. He loved the farm- he loved everything about it: the cows, the barns, the hay- and he spent his time, after retiring from school teaching in 1996, on the farm.
He had a green thumb and grew the most beautiful flowers all over his yard. He also grew a garden each year and loved to provided family & friends with most delicious tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, turnip greens, and more!
Billy was a member of Highland Chapel Baptist Church for over 50 years where he taught Sunday School, and served as a Deacon, and Church Treasurer. He was a man of strong faith and served his God well. He often shared the gospel of Christ with unbelievers that he met. He taught his Christian values to his children and grandchildren. He led by example because he lived what he taught.
Billy left a legacy of faith, strength, and love to be carried by his family into future generations. He lived life big- with a sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He loved his family, he loved the farm, and he will be missed by all.
In addition to his parents, and wife, Betty Woodson Hogan, Billy is preceded in death by his siblings Doris Ann Campbell, Jimmie Hogan, & Judy Stafford.
Survivors include son, Edwin Hogan (Marcia); daughters, Beth Stuart (Mike), and Ginny Runyan (Greg); brothers, Kenneth Hogan (Ruth), and Tony Hogan (Wanda); sister, Patsy Griffin; grandchildren, Landon Hogan (Lauren), Jackson Hogan (Ella), Josh Stuart (Rachel), Jesse Stuart (Ronie Lynn), Allison Hill (Justin), Heather Runyan, Grant Runyan (Trinity), and Kate Runyan; great-grandchildren, Woodson Hogan, Ella Kate Hogan, Sophie Stuart, Maddox Stuart, Jace Stuart, Peyton Stuart, Maverick Hill, and Adeline Hill.
