Billy Ray Moore, aged 77, passed away on August 29, 2025, in Hoover, AL. Born on March 18, 1948, Billy Ray was a dedicated man of faith, deeply committed to his family, friends, and community.
Billy Ray graduated from Sheffield High School and furthered his education at the University of North Alabama and the University of South Alabama. His career in banking spanned over four decades, beginning in 1969 at First National Bank of Florence. He played a crucial role during the transition to SunTrust and later contributed significantly to the establishment of First Metro Bank in Florence, which were the most rewarding and fulfilling 19 years of his banking career. He cherished the relationships he built with his customers, treating them as friends and assisting them earnestly with their financial needs until his retirement in 2015.
A devoted Christian, Billy Ray attended the Magnolia Church of Christ and the Church of the Highlands when in Florence, and later participated in services online from Hoover. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and his generous spirit.
Billy Ray was an avid golfer, enjoying the sport with his wife Neta and a close circle of friends. He was also a passionate Alabama football fan, a hobby that brought him many lifelong friendships. His commitment to community service was evident through his active participation on boards such as the Florence Chamber of Commerce, Shoals Economic Development Authority and the Colbert-Lauderdale Attention Home boards in Florence, reflecting his deep love for his community.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Neta Ward Moore; his daughter, Allison Moore Tarvin (Stewart); his son, Christopher Lee Moore (Nancy); grandchildren, Wesley Moore, Matthew Moore, Hudson Tarvin and Chandler Tarvin; sister, Sue York; sister-in-law, Diann Barnes; brother-in-law, David Ward; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Blake Moore and Irma Cox Moore; brothers, Jimmy and Lewis Moore; and sister, Joann Moore Turman.
Honoring his wishes, Billy Ray was cremated without a formal funeral service. A celebration of his life will be planned for a future date. Those wishing to honor his memory may contribute to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart as he empathized deeply with children battling cancer, reflecting on his own struggles with the disease.
