Billy Monroe Crawford, aged 94, of Athens, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 1st, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital. Born on March 31st, 1931, in Limestone County, he was the son of James Thomas Crawford and Sarah Lemay Crawford.
Mr. Crawford leaves behind a loving family: his devoted wife of 69 years, Jewel Crawford; his children, Ken Crawford (Regina), Perry Crawford, Pat Smith (Bill), and Jeff Crawford (Rebecca); and his sister, Dorothy Latchem (Pete). He was a cherished grandfather to Faith Aderholt (Graham), Nichole Brooks (Clint), Shea Whitt (Ben), Stephanie Smith, Whitney Gatlin, Logan Crawford, Michael Crawford, Grace Talley (Nathan), and Harrison Crawford. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Caroline Aderholt, Jacob Shackleford, Miles Whitt, Crawford Whitt, Hunter Gatlin, Madalyn Gatlin, and his great-great-grandchild, Brantley Shackelford.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings—brothers Orville Crawford, Johnny Crawford, Vernon Crawford, and Marvin Crawford—and sisters Kathleen Johnson and Joanne Hughes.
A graveside service to honor Mr. Crawford’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Cemetery. The service will be officiated by Jimmy Clark. Serving as pallbearers will be Clint Brooks, Jacob Shackelford, Harrison Pike, Michael Crawford, Ken Crawford, and Jeff Crawford.
Billy Monroe Crawford was a man who cherished the simple pleasures of life. He had a profound love for the outdoors, spending his time fishing and maintaining his garden. A dedicated Alabama fan, Mr. Crawford found joy in cheering for his team. His faith was a cornerstone of his life; he was a faithful Christian and a devoted member of Bethel Church of Christ for 33 years.
As a veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Crawford served his country with honor and dignity. Above all, he was a family man who dearly loved those closest to him. His life leaves a lasting impact on all who knew him, and his memory will be forever cherished.
