Betty Jean Hamilton, 95, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 22, 1929, in Indiana to Glenn and Mary Campbell Martin. She then moved to Tennessee and finally made Mississippi her permanent home in 1974. In 1976, she began her first career as an executive secretary at McRae’s, retiring after 27 years of service. Within a year, she realized retirement wasn’t for her. She upskilled in computer technology at a local community college and began her second career as an executive assistant with NCADD, where she worked for 19 years until her second retirement at age 93. She soldiered on through all the ups, downs, and changes, always keeping her family her top priority. No task or favor was too big or too small for her family. She raised four children into fine people and helped raise and love her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even her great-great-grandchildren. She was very proud of all her family and loved to brag about their accomplishments. She loved doing projects around the house that she built in 1978, working in her yard, solving crossword puzzles, reading, and sewing. A favorite spring/summer/fall activity was going to sales, especially if she could take any grands with her and teach them the fine art of bartering and deal-making. She was a member of Belden United Methodist Church and served in a variety of capacities.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Debra Lay officiating. The visitation will immediately precede it at 12:30 PM. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
She is survived by her four children, Jennifer Collins (David), Kit Poe (Larry), Georganna Carter and Noah Hamilton (Sarah); her sister, Dorothy Raines and Margaret Coxe (Myron); her brothers, John Martin and Mark Martin; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, all who affectionately called her Meemaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and, her siblings, Mary Ermine Garrity, Suzanne Roessler, Sherman Martin, Roxanna Lovins and Rebecca Adams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
