Betty Ann Gooch died on Sunday, February 2, 2025, in Thaxton at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 11, 1935, in Thaxton, MS to Robert and Modean Bost. She graduated from Thaxton High School in 1953. She attended Itawamba Junior College and was elected homecoming queen her freshman year before marrying Popa in 1954 and moving to Memphis, TN. Later they moved to Milwaukee, WI before settling in Thaxton living together until his death in 1987. She later married Cowboy Washington.
Amongst her many endeavors were teaching piano lessons at Thaxton High School, serving as the pianist at Thaxton Methodist Church, running her own beauty salon and piercing ears, and working at Action Furniture. Betty Ann was person that had a big heart and was always ready to share Mt. Dews, a helping hand and would cook a skillet full of her famous dough burgers at a moment’s notice. She was a blessing to all who knew her. Whether they called her a friend, Mother or Nanny.
Survivors include her children, Barbara Ward (Gene), Rhonda Kenney (Don), Sandra Barnard (Wally), Jeff Gooch (Lisa), grandchildren, Brandon Gooch (Emily), Amy Willard, David Ward (Erica), Richard Morris (Christy), Jessica Ward, Abby Bright (C. J.), Anna Beth Tacker, Brielle Cruse, Karlee Smith (Chad), Jonathan Barnard (Stephanie), Grant Gooch (Laken), Jaret Gooch (Devin), Lindsay Gall (Jay), 27 great-grandchildren, a beloved brother, Jerry Bost and his wife, Lynda, and her sister-in-law, Shelby Griffin (Barnell).
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Quay Dennis Gooch and Cowboy Washington, son, Dennis Lynn Gooch, and her parents, Robert & Modean Bost.
Services will be held at 2PM Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Thaxton Community Church with Bro. William Montgomery officiating. Visitation will be 6-8PM Tuesday, February 4th and 1PM until service time on Wednesday all at Thaxton Community Church. Burial will follow in Pontotoc Memorial Gardens. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Ryder Willard, Zeke Tacker, Luke Willard, Ray Bright, Joe Quay Willard, and Cole Morris Willard.
