Savanna Breann Ashley SchmittSavanna Breann Schmitt, 32, of Arab, passed away on April 17, 2026. She was born on August 10, 1993, in Huntsville to Robert and Pam Ashley.
Savanna was the beloved middle child of her family, though she was affectionately known as the “baby girl,” growing up alongside her two brothers, Zach and Will. She was raised in the Arab community and attended Arab City Schools, where she was actively involved in sports and school activities. She played volleyball, basketball, soccer, and softball during her high school years, showcasing her dedication, determination, and natural athleticism. In her senior year, she was honored as Homecoming Queen and was also nominated “Most Athletic,” a reflection of both her talent and the admiration she earned from her peers.
During her high school years, Savanna experienced the profound loss of her father, Robert—an event that shaped her strength and resilience. She carried a deep love for him throughout her life, and those who knew her saw firsthand her ability to persevere through hardship with grace and determination.
Savanna will be remembered for her vibrant personality and bubbly spirit. She had a way of lighting up a room and making others feel welcome, valued, and loved. She was also an avid fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and loved everything Crimson Tide, cheering them on with passion and pride.
Above all, Savanna was a devoted mother to her two children, Annistyn and Jax Underwood, who were the center of her world. She loved being active with her children, whether it was spending time together, supporting them in their activities, or even stepping onto the court herself. She enjoyed “schooling them on the courts,” helping coach teams, and simply being present—creating memories through both play and guidance.
She is survived by her loving mother, Pam Ashley; her husband, Shawn Schmitt; her children, Annistyn and Jax Underwood; her brothers, Zach and Will Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Ashley; her children’s father, David Underwood; and her grandparents, Bruce and Brenda Coker.
A visitation and service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Heritage Memorial Chapel, with the service beginning at 5:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the GoFundMe established for Savanna’s children.
Savanna’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
