On Sunday morning, March 15, 2026, Annette Bolton Trent took her last breath peacefully at home and was immediately welcomed into heaven, almost certainly to the sound of a heavenly choir.
Annette Trent was born in Evergreen, AL to Aren and Mamie Ruth Bolton on December 29, 1935, making her 90 years old when she died. Annette was elected governor at Girls State, graduated valedictorian from Evergreen High School, then graduated from Samford University with a double music major, later earning a masters degree in music education. At Samford she met and married her husband, Robert. Their romance lasted almost 68 years/
Annette loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, devoting many talented gifts to His service. Annette taught voice, piano, and organ, played organ and piano at various churches, and directed choirs, including the Athens High School chorus, college singers at Athens State University, and a youth ensamble at First Baptist Church in Athens, AL. She headed the music department at Athens State University, wrote songs and poems, taught Sunday School, and loved to lead ladies Bible studies and prayer groups. She worked as a minister to the deaf in Richmond, VA, and with Robert, started a deaf ministry at First Baptist Church in Athens
In spite of a busy schedule, Annette always put her family first. She made tasty, home-cooked meals, canned vegetables, collected recipes, and washed clothes while grading papers. She taught her children the value of hard work and self-sacrifice. She was absolutely devoted to her husband, son and daughter, demonstrating love and perseverance, especially through tough times.
Annette is survived by her brother, Glenn Bolton (Charlene), children Beth Trent and Steve Trent (Diana), granddaughter Chloe Merrell (Chris), great-granddaughter Aurora Merrell, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Annette was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Trent, her father, Aren Bolton, and her mothers, Mamie Ruth and Lucille Bolton.
Funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, March 20, at Spry Funeral Home in Athens, AL, with Joe Teal, Tee Jackson, and Joel Glaze officiating. Private burial for family to follow service at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens.
Visitation is from noon until 2 PM immediately preceding the service.
Pallbearers are Van Trent, Joel Glaze, Bobby Austin, Billy McClain, Greg McAllister and Nick Allen.
