Robert Clinton Clater III Obituary:
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Clinton Clater Jr. and Lois Cooper Clater. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Terry Clater; his daughters, Ashleigh Clater, Meagan Eanes and her husband, Brandon Eanes, and Courtney Western and her husband, Cole Western; his beloved son; and his faithful dog, Bama. He was a cherished “Poppy” to Lamont Shipp III, Carson Eanes, Lincoln Eanes, and Callum Western.
On Friday, March 13th, 2026 Robert Clinton Clater III gained his wings and was called home. Rob was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and a devoted Alabama football supporter. If there was a game on, chances were Rob was watching it, talking about it, or debating it with anyone willing to listen. Sports were one of his greatest joys, and he loved sharing that passion with others.
Rob also loved a good game of shuffleboard. Whether he was playing or simply enjoying the competition and conversation around it, it was one of the many ways he connected with people and created memories filled with laughter.
To know Rob was truly to love him. He had countless stories and jokes and could keep a room entertained for hours. His personality was larger than life, and time spent with him was never dull.
Above all, Rob was incredibly proud of his girls. They were his greatest joy, and he loved them deeply. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Bama, who brought him so much comfort and companionship.
Rob shared 34 wonderful years with the love of his life, his wife, Terry. She was not only his partner but truly his best friend, and the two of them built a life together filled with love and memories.
The world feels a little dimmer without Rob—without his stories, his laughter, and the conversations that seemed to go on forever. Those who knew him will always remember his humor, his love of sports, and the way he made people feel like family.
And for the record, Jack… Rob won.
Services: Per Rob’s request, there will be no viewing. Please dress in your favorite Alabama gear (yes, that includes you Jack) and join us at Rob’s celebration of life at PH Church on Wednesday, March 18th from 10 am to 12 pm.
