Peggy Sue Truitt Higgins was born at home in Temple, Georgia on June 22, 1934 to William Rozie Truitt and Elsie Fanny Threadgill Truitt, the oldest of four children. She grew up in Bremen, Georgia and graduated from Bremen High School in 1952. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women in 1956 with a degree in Business Education, and spent two years teaching in Hapeville, Georgia, before marrying Charles Vermon Higgins in 1958. They spent the first six months of their marriage in Athens, Georgia while Charles finished his degree in Business. They moved to Lineville, Alabama in 1959, where Charles was employed at “the pants factory”, and their children Margaret and Edward soon made an appearance. Peggy was an accomplished pianist, a talented artist and a natural teacher. She spent many years teaching 5th grade at Lineville Elementary and Barfield Middle School, and was church pianist at the Lineville Baptist Church for over 45 years. She was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional honorary society for women educators.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Higgins Pendley (Tandy), son Edward Charles Higgins, brothers Rodrick Dan Truitt and William Wesley Truitt, step-granddaughter Tayler Pendley Voyles (Brian), great-granddaughters Avery and Callie, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.R. Truitt and Elsie Threadgill Truitt, her brother Winford Rozie Truitt, and her beloved husband of 64 years, Charles Higgins.

Pallbearers will be Sandy Partridge, Brian Voyles, Andy Truitt, Ben Truitt, and Brian Robinson.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Thursday January 29, 2026 from 5:30 until 8:00 PM CST.

Funeral services will be held on Friday January 30, 2026 at 3:00 PM EST at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen, Georgia with Reverend Jerry Colquett officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until service time at 3:00 EST. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Clay County Rescue Squad.
