Daniel Richard Smith age 88 from Russellville, Alabama died Saturday, January 3, 2026. Dan was born to Mr. and Mrs. Willard Smaith on June 18th, 1937.
Dan grew up in the tiny community of Mud Creek, Alabama. He was actually raised by the entire extended Smith Family in Mud Creek especially, his beloved uncle Pete and Aunt Eleanor Smith and his grandparents Otis and Ida Smith.
Dan attended Tharptown School and went on to graduate at Russellville High School 1955. Dan went on to become an Iron Worker. He retired from Reynolds Metal Co. He was also a member of the Iron Workers Union Locals 477 and actually received his 70 year pin this past Fall.
After retiring, Dan turned to his greatest passion restoring is antique Mopar cars inside his custom built garage out at Mud Creek.
Dan is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Libby Gotcher Smith of Leighton Alabama.
Dan loved his children and grandchildren and was so proud of them.
There will be a Graveside Service, Saturday, January 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Old Bethel Cemetery 7317 Highway 48, Leighton, AL weather permitting. In case of rain, family and friends will receive visitors at Pinkard Funeral Home, 27305 Highway 24 East, Russellville.
Pallbearers are John Smith, Hiram Ga. Craig Smith, Russellville, Ronnie (Rat) Allen, Russellville (Mud Creek) and Jacob Aycock of Russellville and Mud Creek.
