Donald Creed Lackey, 95, of Jasper, passed away at home on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, December 16 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at Sixth Avenue Church of Christ from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, with the service following. Interment will then take place at Walker Memory Gardens. Levi Sides and Roy Williams will officiate, and Neil Evans will serve as music director.
Firstly, Don Lackey was a faithful husband and father, and a faithful member of Sixth Avenue Church of Christ where he served as deacon in the 1960s and 70s. He also served as treasurer of the church, and as treasurer of the African Mission Fund.
Don was a quick-witted and conscientious person, known for his ever-present sense of humor even in his final days. His career spanned a number of businesses, most notably Primm-Lackey Motors, a partnership with his father-in-law. Prior businesses included the Farmers’ Equipment Company, the Jasper Newsstand, an American Motors Company car dealership, and Dobbs’s Feed Mill.
Don was also active in the community, performing duties including Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Walker County Airport Board, member of the David Lipscomb University Development Council, President of the Parent-Teacher Association, and numerous Jasper Kiwanis Club offices, including President.
A veteran of the Korean War, Don served seven years in the United States Army where he earned seven bronze battle stars and attained the rank of First Sergeant.
The family express their sincere gratitude to Kristian Shirley and Marsha Williams of Enhabit Hospice for their expert and compassionate care in Don’s final days.
Don was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet Lackey; by his parents Edna and James Lackey; and by siblings Billy Lackey, Tommy Lackey, Christine Gallups, Ann Knobloch, Bobby Lackey, and Doug Lackey.
Don is survived by his sisters Peggy O’Brien and June Baker, and his brother Gary Lackey (wife Glenda), as well as his daughter Carolyn Lackey (fiancé Duncan Roy), son Don Lackey (wife Mickey McCracken), son Mark Lackey (wife Jennifer), grandchildren Christina, Jarrod, and Tabitha, and many other relatives and friends.
