Harvey L. BlackMr. Harvey L. Black, of Fort Payne, Alabama, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, on December 13, 2025 at the age of 82. Harvey was born on November 4, 1943 to Curtis H. Black and Fannie Mae Black of Rainsville, Alabama. He was raised as one of seven children by loving parents. He spent his early days on a dairy farm before graduating from Plainview High School.

On December 12, 1964, Harvey married Gail Sterling, and they shared a lifelong love of 42 years until her passing in 2007. They were blessed with one son, Eric Black, four grand-daughters, Jessica Tidmore, Makayla Black, Tori Gilmore, Gabi Gilmore, one great-grandson, Samuel Turner and one great-grand-daughter, Luna Jordan.

Harvey built a wonderful life as a career welder. He worked on Koehring cranes in Memphis, Tennessee until his first retirement. He went on to retire again from Roadtec in Chattanooga, Tennessee after nearly 25 years of dedicated service with a reputation for hard-work and dependability.

Harvey was a dedicated and loving husband, father, pawpaw, brother, and friend. To know him was to love him, because he lived a life filled with laughter. He enjoyed many years of sports with his son, traveling, softball, deep sea fishing, golf, and spoiling “his girls”. He was known for his antics and always left those he loved with a wide smile. He will be deeply missed, but forever remain in our hearts.

Harvey is survived by his son, Eric (Devi) Black; grand-daughters, Jessica (Tyler) Tidmore, Makayla Black (Tyler Coker), Tori Gilmore (Franklin Jordan), and Gabi Gilmore; great-grandson, Samuel Turner, great-grand-daughter, Luna Jordan; and siblings Carolyn (WJ) Story, Patricia (Larry) Ingram, Lester (Veronica) Black, Deon (Tammy) Black along with many nieces and nephews.

Harvey is preceded in death by his wife Gail Black; parents, Curtis and Fannie Mae Black, siblings; Verlon Black and Melvin Black, and nephew Larry Ingram Jr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the employees of Collinsville Healthcare and Rehab and Dekalb Regional Medical Center for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Mr. Black.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, December 15, 2025 from 4pm-7pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Fort Payne, Alabama. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 12pm at Wilson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne, Alabama.
